Orphan Breakfast House...

Hipsters like this place. That's the general theme I notice while sitting in this joint at 10:30am on a Monday morning and noticing the cacophony of tattooed, beanie and converse wearing bespectacled youngin's. Doesn't anyone work?

I'm not sure I understand the concept of this place, even after going online to read its Mission Statement on how it's supposedly Latino flavors with Asian nuances. Where? What's Asian about this place? The ribbons of scallions on my plate? What's latino about this place? The excess use of avocado and pico-de-gallo? I don't like drinking out of plastic cups, I don't like drinking chlorinated city water out of plastic cups. Ok, don't be so damn judgmental, just order.

"I'll have the rosemary plate, where does your bacon come from?" "What do you mean?" "I mean, where does your bacon come from. Is it made in-house, out-sourced, local?" "Oh, it comes from a local meat distributor." Companion: "Del-monte is a local meat purveyor."

Rosemary plate, 7.50, side of two pieces of bacon 1.50. Rosemary potatoes, toast, and two over-medium eggs. I have to admit that my eggs were well executed, which doesn't seem like much...but you'd be surprised what I've received on my plate in the past. Let's remove the scallion ribbons and pale small dice of tomatoes. The potatoes were crispy and well browned on the outside, but I suppose this place is taking the "diner" approach when it comes to seasoning. And by that I mean, do it your damn self. Rosemary toast, tastes like frozen Texas toast. Companion's blueberry cornmeal pancakes; always love the texture that cornmeal lends to pancakes. That bite of substance. Pancake batter was one-note and flat, blueberries were not sweet. Not sure how I feel about the blackberry preserves squeezed out onto the rim of the plate in a gloopy stream. No, I know how I feel about it...don't put anything on the fucking rim of the plate. That coca-cola bottle with the syrup in it is cute.

All in all, this place isn't the worst place I've eaten breakfast in Sacramento. I just think that their big picture efforts weren't executed well in the final product.
