La Palma...

We used to live in what USED to be considered "deep" in the Mission, 26th and Folsom baby. We never thought it was deep, we thought it was the heart of the Mission. You were never too far away from a good Panaderia; 3 bolillos for $1, 3 pan dulces for $1. A great taqueria; where the $5 burrito still exists. Goya canned goods on the shelf where no one considers it an "exotic" ingredient and they're not overly priced.

While we lived in this rat's nest from hell under the thumb of our slumlord, German. We ventured out many a night in hopes of scoring our drug of choice: food. And that's when we stumbled upon this place...

La Palma.

It's been years since I wandered my old neighborhood, but I still know where the good shit is. And yeah, I've never seen that many hipsters hanging out in this part of the Mission before in front of St. Francis' Fountain. So many hip food establishments; Dynamo and Slocombe. But, I fake to the left when comfronted with these obstacles and get down to the roots. What's the good shit?

A dozen warm and fresh corn tortillas for $0.50. Oh, that's right mofo. What can you buy in SF for $0.50? A clove of garlic? A sprig of mint? Nothing! You gets nothing. Or, you can get some tender, sweet, delicate corn tortillas.

So ask yourself, do you feel lucky?
