Gorda Eats: A Puerto Rican Cookbooklet
This cookbook/memoir is designed by Vivian Liberti, photographs by Dan Liberti, styling and recipes by me. It's a family affair. It features stories and ten traditional and modern Puerto Rican recipes. Gorda Eats: A Puerto Rican Cookbook is a 24-page, 5.5''x 8.5'' paperback booklet with saddlestitching.
Not only does this 24-page cookbook make Puerto Rican cooking approachable, it also shows a connection between ingredients that span into other cultures.
The funds I accumulate on Etsy go directly into my research; seeking out unknown Puerto Rican recipes, techniques, stories and geneological research. Most of these recipes come from my grandma and great-grandma, did my great-great-grandma also cook like this? Or, was she a slave/taino goddess? Does the food we cook directly descend from both of those backgrounds?
I'm currently working on a book proposal that focuses a larger and more traditional version of this booklet cookbook; this booklet is basically a sample of what my much larger cookbook would look like. I'm currently seeking publishers and agents that are interested in ethnic cookbooks and first-time authors.
